The Lab is a third kind of space: between the classroom and the workshop, between academia and industry, between disciplines, between the physical and the digital.

The ecosystem is not the technologies alone but the systems, practices, and training that make them safe, accessible, and learnable. That is what lets the Lab run as a drop-in facility through the day, every day of the semester, alongside its teaching.

Nothing in the Lab is dangerous. Dangerous is what things are before we have done our job. Every space, technology, and material here is risk-assessed, and each space and technology carries one of six coloured bands, white to red, that records that work.

And the Lab teaches. Creative Making Workshops bring groups together to make something and take it home. Practical classes bring coursework into the Lab, led by our team, taught with academics, or supported as students work. Productions are our signature teaching: a whole cohort in a fixed slot, building something at scale and then occupying it, always ending in public exhibition.

All of it is delivered by the Lab team: Technologists, a role we invented, people who teach through and with technology.
